Does Your Home Need Attic Insulation?
Your attic is the most important place to have insulated. Without proper attic insulation, cool or hot air will escape through the top of your home. Many homeowners complain that their air conditioner runs all day, but the house never gets cool. This is the sign of a poorly insulated attic. There are additional benefits of insulating an attic with blown cellulose. The cellulose provides moisture resistance and fire resistance.
Berkeley Attic Insulation Project
These guys are great. Blake did an energy audit for us, and made recommendations for how to get our 1951 house more comfortable in the winter. Jesus and his team came in a week later and blew-in attic insulation. All our interactions have been extremely professional; they were on-time, friendly, thorough, and even provided photos of the insulation in the attic. There wasn’t a spot of dust after the work either! Highly recommended, and we plan to work with them more in the future.

What Type of Attic Insulation Do I Need?
We install several types of attic insulation: denim batts, blown in cellulose, spray foam and radiant barriers. What your home needs depends on its specific design. We typically use blown in cellulose. It is the best, most cost effective solution for most Bay Area attics. However, the other attic insulation materials might be better for your home. Our expert building scientists can recommend which type of attic insulation best suits your needs.

How Much Attic Insulation Do I Need?
The R-value of attic insulation measures how much insulation is installed. Most homes with older attic insulation have an effective R-value of R-10 or less. If the insulation is old or not properly installed the value can be as low as R-2. Our building science professionals recommend that attic insulation achieves at least an R-30 rating, and sometimes more. It is the most cost-effective way to make your home more comfortable and lower your heating and cooling bills.
